Due to due to a known positive COVID-19 exposure, the Gilpin County Old Courthouse located at 203 Eureka St., Central City, CO will be closed with a tentative reopening date of April 7th.  Clerk and Recorder/Motor Vehicles and Records Research which will tentatively reopen on the 7th. AVOID LATE FEES! It is easiest to mail a check or drop it off in the ballot box in front of the Old Courthouse to avoid a long wait time for an appointment.

  • MV appointments are to be scheduled online only, unless otherwise stated in the scheduling system
  • Customers are limited to 2 transactions per appointment.
  • All individuals will be called by their confirmed appointment
  • Appointments will be forfeited if you are more than 5 minutes late
  • All individuals entering county property will be required to wear a face mask and complete a COVID health screen.
  • At risk populations or individuals are to complete services online or through mail
  • When arriving at the court house leave one parking spot open between you and others
  • Unless your appointment requires more than 1 individual from the household – please come by yourself to court house


WELCOME to the website for the Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder's Office. The Clerk and Recorder's office is responsible for operating the State Motor Vehicle Division for Gilpin County. The Clerk and Recorder's office is also responsible for issuing and recording marriage licenses, recording all real estate transactions, issuing liquor licenses, recording the Board of County Commissioner meeting minutes, registering voters, conducting all primary, general and county elections and, when contracted, municipal and school district elections.

HOURS: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. No Motor Vehicle Titles will be processed after 4:00 p.m. Recorded documents received after 4:30 p.m. will be recorded on the next business day.
