Elections - Caucuses
2012 Caucus Day Information
No invitation is required - you simply attend and participate. Caucus begins at 7:00 pm. Registered voters from your neighborhood who attend the caucus are eligible to be chosen as delegates to the County, State or Congressional Assemblies. Issues may be discussed and committee people chosen to represent the precinct. There will also be an opportunity to sign up as an election judge for your precinct.
At each political party's County Assembly, delegates are given an opportunity to learn about and/or meet prospective candidates. Delegates are then asked to choose a candidate for each office. A potential candidate must receive at least 30 percent of the delegate vote at the Assembly in order to have his/her name placed on the Primary Election ballot.
In order to vote in a precinct caucus, a voter shall be a resident of the precinct for thirty days, shall have registered to vote no later than twenty-nine days before the caucus and shall be affiliated with the political party for at least two months. CRS 1-3-101(1)
Precinct caucuses are held in a public place or in a private home that is open to the public on the Second Tuesday in April in each even-numbered year. CRS 1-3-102(1)(a)(I)
