CSU Extension Gilpin County
Habitat
Gardening. 6:30-7:30 pm. Exhibit Barn, 230 Norton Drive. $5. Learn
how to attract hummingbirds, songbirds, and other pollinators by growing
appropriate plants and providing other enticements.
June 2:
CSU Extension Gilpin CountySlash
Piles – how to build them, how to get a permit.
1–3 pm. FREE!
Gilpin
County Slash Yard (mile marker 15, HWY 119, across from the transfer station).
Slash pile burning is an alternative to hauling or chipping slash. Learn about
the permit process, allowable burning conditions, and safe construction of piles
for good burning. We will also cover Ips beetle management. Bring gloves,
older clothes, sturdy footwear, and water. Please RSVP @ 303-582-9106 to
attend this joint presentation by CSU Extension-Gilpin and the Colorado State
Forest Service.

with Critters in the Garden. 6:30 -7:30 pm. Exhibit Barn, 230 Norton Drive. $5. Can
you tell the difference between pocket gopher and vole damage? Learn how to
keep these critters and others from destroying your garden.

Wildflower and Weed Walks.
10 am–noon.

21. 2-4 pm. Meet at the Exhibit Barn, 230 Norton Drive. $5.
Join our slow, easy walk of up to 1.5 miles to identify local flowers.
Different flowers will be blooming during each walk, so come to both! Dress for
the weather.

Canning
Basics-Jams/Jellies. 10 am–1 pm. Gilpin County Community Center, 250 Norton Dr. $10
(includes materials fee). This class covers basic water-bath canning for
safe food preservation and includes demonstrations, recipes, necessary products
and equipment, as well as resource info. Learn the characteristics of a
“well-made” jam for competition and gifts. Instructor: Stephanie Estreen,
Certified CSU Extension Volunteer and Master Food Safety Advisor.

ID and Control.

Can you tell a wildflower from a weed? Do you know that it is
illegal to have certain weeds (even if they are pretty) growing on your
property? Learn which plants are on your property. Bring samples of weeds for
identification and advice on how to control them.
July 22:

FREE WEED DISPOSAL DAY! 9:30 am-2:30 pm. Gilpin County Slash Yard (mile marker 15, HWY
119, across from the transfer station). Gilpin County Residents ONLY! This
is your chance to dispose of bags of weeds (noxious weeds only, please) for
FREE.
Come to the Weed ID class on July 14 to learn what to pull.
